Project Sales FAQ

What is Project Sales?

Project Sales is a highly specialized division within our sales team which focuses almost exclusively on building projects.

What qualifications are best suited for the job?

Most of our Project Sales staff are former builders or people who have previously worked in the building industry. While this background is not a job requirement, a working knowledge of standard building practices is necessary.

In addition, the job is best suited to those who enjoy working with others and can organize and manage multiple projects at the same time. We’re looking for genuine, honest people who enjoy sales, and want a stable ‘indoor’ career within the building industry.

What is the work like?

Typically, you’ll meet with a builder or homeowner to discuss and make recommendations for a building project. You’ll review the building plans, then determine and quote the necessary materials to complete the job. Once a quote is approved, you’ll place any necessary orders and take payment or bill the customer account.

In the next phase, you’ll become a liaison between manufacturers and your customer. This includes keeping the customer informed of order status, as well as arranging scheduled deliveries to the jobsite.  As the project progresses, you’ll facilitate orders for any additional supplies and returns of any unused products.

In addition, we are a retail store. That means you’ll help answer questions/phones, direct customers and help as needed. We work together at Bernard Building Center and assist our customers and one another however we can.

Why is the pay shown in such a wide range on Indeed?

Project Sales staff work for an hourly wage plus commissions, and a steady book of business requires time and trust to build.

Personable, organized, efficient communicators consistently earn much higher commissions than those who are less comfortable working in sales. Those willing to put in the effort are committing to a career that can become quite lucrative over time. We have staff members who consistently earn commissions in the high range. They’ve earned their place by building strong relationships and honing their craft.

If you’re bold enough to enjoy sales and humble enough to learn, if you have experience in the building industry and a working knowledge of standard building practices, Project Sales could be a rewarding career. Why not apply today?
